The person behind the hands
Gaia was founded by Catarina Alves, a Portuguese designer and calligrapher based in Amsterdam.
What started with paper and handwriting has gradually become a much bigger playground: drawing on things, painting things, engraving things, stitching things, making paper move…
The studio sits somewhere between design, craft and a mild obsession with making things properly by hand.
The work is considered, but it doesn't take itself too seriously.
